My passion for cycling was renewed after my new motorcycle was stolen in 2011. It took only a single commute into the office by public transport for me to decide that there had to be a better way to get into London while I waited for my insurance pay-out. My much-rebuilt 1987 F.W. Evans mountain bike came in very handy. The commute only took 10 minutes longer than on the motorcycle - well, in the early morning at least. I became hooked and tripled my annual bicycle mileage. These days I clock up more miles by bicycle than by car.
Over the years my bike collection has grown. The latest addition is a Brompton SL2-X folding bike in raw lacquer finish with titanium forks, a titanium rear triangle and lightweight wheels. My friend Barney talked me into joining him and some friends for the 2013 Brompton World Championship at Goodwood Racecourse in West Sussex, where somehow we managed to win the Veterans Team Event with me posting the fasted time in our team. Not bad, considering my Brompton has only two speeds.
I am a member of the Twickenham Cycling Club. Each of the past three years I have managed to cut 20 secounds off my time for the Club Hill Climb championship at Old Windsor. On current form it will take only another three years before I am in the running for the overall club championship...
I am currently studying for my British Cycling Level 2 Coaching Qualification.
